Guide to Discounts with Checkout X
Checkout X offers built-in functionality to create automatic discount codes. Also, it connects directly to other types of discount codes you have created within your e-commerce platform and your customers will still be able to use those discount codes with Checkout X.
How to set up discount codes (or coupons)
This depends on which e-commerce platform you are using for your store and each of them has its own way of creating discount codes (or coupons).
We suggest you follow the steps provided by the e-commerce platform’s official guidelines when creating your discount codes.
For your convenience, we have included some of them here.
Discount Codes that Checkout X Supports
Most of the discount types you create within your e-commerce platform can be used with Checkout X.
The following tables provide a detailed list of what Checkout X supports at the moment 👇
⚠️ Automatic discounts could be created only through the Checkout X platform. You can find more details here.
⭐ If you select what your discount code will apply to, Checkout X also supports your selections. You can select the entire order, specific collections, specific products, or just certain variants of a product.
⭐ If you want, you can set minimum requirements and Checkout X applies your discount codes based on your requirements.
⭐ Checkout X does not discriminate against anyone 🙂
⚠️ At the moment, Checkout X does not support customer-specific eligibility requirements. Therefore, your discount codes will be valid for everyone.
⭐ You can create Free Shipping discount codes from your e-commerce platform. You can also set the country eligibility if you wish and Checkout X will apply the discount codes as per your setup.
⭐ The usage limit you set on your discount code still applies with Checkout X. But, Checkout X does not support the usage limits per customer at the moment.
⭐ If you want your discount code to be active at a certain time frame, Checkout X only accepts your discounts based on the dates you set in your e-commerce platform.
Although Checkout X does not support Automatic discounts out of the box, based on how you want to set up your discount, you can still achieve your goal by using a Buy X Gey Y discount code and adding a hidden “discount” field inside the add to cart form within your product page. So, the discount code will be added automatically every time you checkout.
Although it sounds a bit techie, you can simply add the following code in the add to cart form. To make the discount work, follow these steps:
- Create a “Buy X get Y“ discount on the platform of your store.
- Then, go to Online Store > Themes > Edit Code > Search for “cart-template.liquid” and open it
- Find the form of the cart.
- Add the input right after the <form> tag like it is shown on the image below.
<input id="discountCode" name="discount" type="hidden" value="test">
5. Make sure that the value is the same as the name of the discount code that you’ve already created.
6. Click Save.
