What is the “phone number” field and how does it work?
You could choose if you want to add a mandatory field on checkout to make sure your customers add their phone number. It is important to know that once you add this field to the checkout page, it can’t be blank or made as optional.
Note: A warning message will be displayed if you add the phone number field but the customer doesn’t provide the phone number information. This way they won’t be able to finalize the purchase.
How can I add the “phone number” field?
- Login to your Checkout X account
- Click on Configuration.
- Go to Customize Checkout.
- Scroll down and find Require a phone number at checkout.
- Check the box if you want to add the mandatory field.
- Don’t forget to click Save Checkout.

🙋 Can I make the field “optional” while added to the checkout page?
No, once the phone number field is added to the checkout page it becomes mandatory to be filled. Checkout X strives to remove all unnecessary checkout fields to reduce friction and improve conversion rates. That's why we don't allow having optional fields. If you need phone number information, then make it mandatory - otherwise, don’t add this field.
